Marked Regression of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy after Outflow Desobliteration in HOCM
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present an HOCM patient in whom marked regression of left ventricular hypertrophy occurred within two years following outflow desobliteration by percutaneous septal ablation. Maximum wall thickness (initially documented by both echo and MRI) decreased from 34 mm to 22 mm (followup by echo only due to presence of the ICD), crossing the threshold value of 30 mm which was one of the risk markers that had triggered the primary prophylactic ICD implantation in this case prior to septal ablation.

Regression of left ventricular hypertrophy after nonsurgical septal reduction therapy for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
BACKGROUND Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) is characterized by left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in the absence of increased external load. Recently, nonsurgical septal reduction therapy (NSRT) with intracoronary ethanol has been introduced to treat severely symptomatic patients with outflow tract obstruction. Its long-term effects on LV mass, however, are unknown. METHODS AND...
متن کاملEarly onset and progression of left ventricular remodeling after alcohol septal ablation in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
BACKGROUND Alcohol septal ablation (ASA) reduces left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) pressure gradient in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM), which leads to left ventricular remodeling. We sought to describe the early to midterm changes and modulating factors of the remodeling process using cardiac MRI (CMR). METHODS AND RESULTS CMR was performed at baseline and 1 ...
متن کاملA Pregnancy with Severe Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy after Surgery for an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator: A Case Report and Literature Review
Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) is cardiac hypertrophy of ventricular myocardium with left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. We report a pregnancy with HOCM after defibrillator implantation surgery. The patient was a 33-year-old nulligravida and was categorized as New York Heart Association class II. Her brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) level was 724.6 pg/dL at preconception....
متن کاملREGRESSION OF LEFT VENTRICULAR HYPERTROPHY AFTER SUCCESSFUL RENAL TRANSPLANTATION AMONG UREMIC PATIENTS
Recognition of the natural history and responsible leading factors for regression of left ventricular hypertrophy after successful renal transplantation are very important. The aim of this study was to assess the regression of left ventricular hypertrophy after successful renal transplantation among uremic patients. In this study 27 uremic patients (18 males and 9 females) with an average a...
متن کاملAn assessment of regression of left ventricular hypertrophy following alcohol ablation of the interventricular septum in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with left ventricular outflow tract obstruction.
BACKGROUND Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) is characterised by asymmetric myocardial hypertrophy, which is most pronounced in the interventricular septum (IVS) and is responsible for the dynamic obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT). Successful alcohol septal ablation (ASA) of the IVS allows to reduce the thickness of the parabasal part of the IVS myocardium an...
